IP protection class levels or IP degree of protection are international standards defined by the IEC 60529 standard to classify and evaluate the degree of protection of enclosures against access to dangerous parts (contact with low or high voltage live parts and contact with dangerous mechanical parts), against penetration by solid foreign objects and against penetration by water.
Enclosures are designated by a symbol consisting of the acronym ?IP? (Protection Index) followed by two numerals, which indicate compliance with the established conditions.
1º CHARACTERISTIC NUMERAL
The first numeral defines protection against access by persons to dangerous parts (e.g. touching an energized contact with the finger) of electrical equipment and against penetration by solid foreign objects (e.g. dust, tools, wires, insects...).
2º NUMERAL CHARACTERISTICS
The second numeral defines the protection against water penetration, which could damage the internal equipment (examples: rain, places where pressure washing takes place, etc).
In the IP PROTECTION INDEX TABLE below we have descriptions of the protections by levels from 0 to 6 against access to dangerous parts and by solid objects and descriptions of the protections by levels from 0 to 8 against water penetration. Consult our TABLE and define the degree of protection for your enclosure.
Our panels and mounting boxes have according to the standard ABNT NBR IEC 60529 - Protection Degree for Electrical Equipment Enclosures.
The tests were carried out in a laboratory accredited by Cgcre in accordance with.
